Estonia, officially the Republic of Estonia (Estonian: Eesti or Eesti Vabariik) is a country in North East of the European Union, bordering Russia from the east and Latvia from the south. The Baltic Sea separates it from Finland in the north by the Gulf of Finland and from Sweden in the west.
Estonia has a population of just 1,3 million, but is larger than Denmark or Holland. Almoust 50% of the territory is covered with forrest.
Estonia has been a member of the European Union since 1 May 2004 and of NATO since 29 March 2004.

Tartu - City of Good Thoughts
Tartu is a university town and a city of youth. The time-honoursed university, museum-rich and Hanseatic city of Tartu lies on the banks of the River Emajõgi. The Emajõgi River connects the two largest lakes of Estonia and flows for the lenght of 10 kilometres within the city limits and adds colour to the city. The capital of Southern-Estonia is oldest city in the Baltic States. The first written records of Tartu date from 1030.
Tartu, with its population of 98 473 (data from 1.01.2009) in an area of 38.8 square kilometres, is the second largest city of Estonia, but the largest in terms of student population.
In July 2009 Tartu Airport was opened for scheduled passanger traffic. Tartu is now connected with the rest of the world through Riga and Stockholm. Tartu-Riga flights are opereted by airBaltic and Estonian Air operates Tartu-Stockholm routes.

Estonian Time and Weather
Estonia is in the Eastern European Time Zone: GMT + 2 hours in winter and GMT + 3 hours during the Daylight Savings Time in summer. The end of May is the beginning of summer in Estonia, with average about 17°C and daily highs reaching 23°C. Weather can be windy and changeable with possible rainfall. Visa Information
Nationals of EU and EEA member states are free to enter Estonia. The required travel document for entry is a national ID card or passport.
As of 21 December 2007, Estonia is a part of the Schengen Area, so the borders are open with the rest of Europe. Brits, Americans, Canadians and Australians can also enter Estonia visa-free.

Currency
The Estonian kroon is pegged to the Euro at €1 to 15.65kr. Euros are not legal currency here as Estonia won’t join the common currency until 2011.
Paper bills come in denominations of 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 500kr.
Credit cards are widely used in Estonia at most hotels, restaurants, car rentals, and retail stores. All major credit cards are accepted, including VISA, MasterCard, American Express.
